Smooth Streaming - Add NominalBitrate on client manifest

Hello

Does it possible to add the NominalBitrate* attribute on the QualityLevel tag on the client manifest?

*) NominalBitrate: [Optional] Specifies the maximum bitrate for this quality level in bits-per-second (bps) over any window of one second.

Microsoft Documentation:http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff728116(v=vs.90).aspx...

thanks

Hi Dante,

Did you try to add it manually and check if it solves your problem?

Please feel free to ask the question support(a/t)unified-streaming.com as well.

Re: Smooth Streaming - Add NominalBitrate on client manifest

Dirk

We tried adding two values

NominalBitrate=Bitrate
NominalBitrate=1.5 * Bitrate

Unfortunately the problem persist (ABR does not work) and the player is not capable to use a higher quality.

We do not know how to determine the real value for NominalBitrate. That's the reason because we ask here.

Re: Smooth Streaming - Add NominalBitrate on client manifest

Hi Dante,

It's calculated as you mention in the first post: 'the maximum bitrate for this quality level in bits-per-second (bps) over any window of one second'. When the encoder is set to use constant bitrate it's the same as the bitrate, but if the encoder is using variable bitrate then it's not.

Could you perhaps post a manifest, or even better the url of a stream so we can take a look? It might something simple, a mistake in the manifest or other. Please send that to support(a/t)unified-streaming.com

Re: Smooth Streaming - Add NominalBitrate on client manifest

Hi Dirk

This a sample of manifest that we have:http://fng-vod-qp.akamaized.net/ss/vol2/s/FNG_CP/i216090i258977/201...

And I have attached a version where we add the NominalBitrate=1.5*Bitrate, we did this because we do not know how to calculate the real NominalBitrate.

If there is a way of calculate the values after the encoding it will be really helpful.

thanks

Thanks Dante,

We'll take a look.

The url is not complete, could you mail it to support? (The forum software I believe does not handle them well).

Hi Dante,

That's ok, it now works - I got a 404 before.

We'll take a look and get back to you.

Hi Dante,

The manifest looks ok, but there seem to be two audio tracks. Could you try with one, as we have seen players getting confused, especially when they do not align properly.

Dirk

We can filter the audio tracks by adding a query parameter.

Does this manifest look OK for you?

Re: Smooth Streaming - Add NominalBitrate on client manifest

Hi Dante,

I am sorry, I misunderstood regarding the audio. Could you remove the audio completely? Smooth typically does not like multiple audio bitrates, so if you could test with video only that could possibly show that the player changes bitrates.

Hi Dante,

The URL would be this:

http://fng-vod-qp.akamaized.net/ss/vol2/s/FNG_CP/i216090i258977/201...

Does the player switch with video only?
